Category 5
Category 5 was defined by the Telecommunications Industry Association in an attempt to standardize premises wiring for a period of roughly 10 years. The original issue of the specification was released in January 1995, it's impact has been felt on a wide range of fronts. In addition to signals capable of carrying voice, token ring and ATM (at over 150 Mbit/s) -- category 5 wired networks deliver a much higher speed rate than wireless platforms, with greater security.
